Impermanence: The Heartbeat of Life.
“Impermanence is the heartbeat of life, teaching us that nothing lasts forever—except the love we leave behind.”
This past week I had the opportunity to witness the creation of a sand Mandala by four Tibetan Monks at Rafi Lounge, in Malibu, during The Mandala Portal.
Starting from the center, they created the Medicine Buddha mandala over five days, standing over the table, steadily dropping colored grains of sand, one after the other, until they finished the mandala, only to gently sweep all the sand back into the center of the table on the last day, as if it had never been there.
This ritual was a beautiful reminder of impermanence, and the transient nature of life. The continuos cycle of beginnings and endings.
When we accept that all is fleeting, we can release regret, cherish the present, and embrace the unknown with courage. Impermanence is the essence of life’s beauty and wisdom, and it is a great teacher of gratitude.
As the waves kiss the shore only to retreat back to the ocean, so too does life moves in a rhythm of arrivals and departures. Impermanence is not a force to resist but a dance to embrace. It is a reminder that every moment is a gift, unique, fleeting, and profound. What’s left behind, and what’s carried forward, will be what has been felt and learned.
In this truth, we are free. Free to let go. Free to love deeply. Free to be fully present.
May we honor the beauty of life’s transient nature and find joy and gratitude in every moment.
